The department provides an extensive didactic conference program. The evening seminar- series includes a monthly Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Medical Ethics, Medical Economics and the Subspecialty Lecture Series. Subspecialty conferences include Monday Morning Conference, Fluorescein Angiography, Pediatric Ophthalmology, and Tuesday Chief Rounds. Ophthalmic pathology is taught every Thursday morning by emeritus faculty member, Morton Smith, M.D.. Grand Rounds is held every Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday afternoons members of the research faculty present seminars on their research at the Vision Science Seminar. As part of the Visiting Professor Series, faculty invite guest professors from other institutions to the Department. The Visiting Professors spend time teaching the residents in the afternoon and speaking in the evening at the St. Louis Ophthalmological Society or Grand Rounds.
