Tenure Track Faculty Positions

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Washington University, St. Louis

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences invites applications for full-time, tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. We are seeking candidates with interests in all aspects of ocular biology and disease, with emphasis on the retina and the ocular surface. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or M.D. degree, have relevant postdoctoral experience and a strong record of accomplishment in research. Successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain vigorous, independently-funded vision science research programs. Competitive salaries, ample start-up packages and first-class laboratory space will be provided.

Scientists using innovative approaches in neurobiology, molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, and cell biology will find a supportive community of distinguished colleagues at Washington University. The graduate program in the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences (DBBS) at Washington University has been a model for free standing, interdisciplinary graduate training since 1973 and supports the largest M.D./Ph.D. training program in the country. Department members with appointments in the DBBS have access to a large pool of talented Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. students.

The University has a Vision Sciences Training Grant to help support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and a Core Grant for Vision Research to provide support to the vision science community in histopathology, advanced imaging methods, the generation of transgenic and knockout mice, electronics and biostatistics.

The individuals selected will be expected to contribute to a strong vision science research group within the Department and in other departments in the Medical School. The Department is a leader in grant funding from the NIH and private foundations. Details about departmental research programs can be found at: http://ophthalmology.wustl.edu/research/index.html. Many Washington University faculty members outside of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences are involved in vision research and related areas. These individuals can be found by clicking on the 'Faculty' tab at http://dbbs.wustl.edu/ and searching for the appropriate term.

To ensure full and timely consideration, submit (1) a current curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and any grant support, (2) a brief statement of research interests and (3) contact information for three references (do not ask for letters be sent at this time).
