What is cheek lift surgery?
Cheek lift or mid-face lift surgery is a minimally invasive procedure the restores the natural fullness to the eyelid-cheek region, and reduces excessive wrinkling or sagging skin by using one’s own tissues. The goal is to reposition the descended skin and fat of the cheek with no visible scars. This procedure helps to improve the balance and contours of your face while reducing visible signs of aging in the midface.
Why cheek lift surgery?
Washington University’s Oculofacial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons specialize in performing cheek lift surgeries to help individuals regain confidence by reducing the visible signs of aging in the central part of the face, such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Cheek lift or mid-facelift procedures may be performed either alone or in combination with other complimentary cosmetic surgery procedures, such as eyelid surgery, browlift, or Botox to improve your overall aesthetic result.
What should I expect during the procedure?
Our surgeons perform cheek lifts as an outpatient procedure under anesthesia. The procedure takes about 2 hours.
The entire midface and cheek region is elevated off the bone and repositioned into a higher and more aesthetic pleasing vector or direction. Thicker cheek tissues are repositioned directly over the cheekbone, resulting in a more prominent and enhancement mid-facial region. If necessary, excess eyelid skin is trimmed and fat bags beneath the eyes are removed.
What is the recovery time?
Cheek lift procedures have minimal incisions and a short recovery time compared to traditional facelift procedures. You can go home the same day with light facial dressings. Head elevation is encouraged for the first few days after surgery to minimize any bruising or swelling. A slight to moderate amount of bruising around the cheek and eyelid regions is common, and usually resolved in 5-7 days.
Benefits of cheek lift surgery:
- Restore cheeks to high, full, and youthful looking position
- Reduce the appearance of cheek “jowls”
- Soften nasolabial folds (laugh lines) between the nose and mouth
- Improve overall facial contours and balance
- Revolumize soft tissue in the cheek bone area
- Reduce the signs of aging in the midface
