Welcoming Riya Philip, OD, to WashU Medicine Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

Riya Philip, OD, joins the WashU Medicine John F. Hardesty, MD Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences with a strong background in primary eye care and ocular disease management. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry, graduating with clinical honors in 2021. Philip then completed her residency training at the Lexington VA Medical Center, specializing in ocular disease with an emphasis on low vision care.

Philip’s clinical interests include comprehensive eye care and the management of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes-related eye disease, and dry eye. She is passionate about delivering patient-centered care and creating an environment where individuals feel comfortable, heard, and confident in their treatment plan.

“Optometry is one of the fields where you can receive instant gratification by helping patients see better, which is what drew me into this field.”

Outside of clinic, Philip enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and playing chess—bringing curiosity and balance to both her personal and professional life.
