Quality-of-life issues have stepped into the spotlight for glaucoma, and ophthalmologists are learning how to incorporate new insights and tools into their clinical practice. A question-and-answer session at the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2019 annual meeting focused on a discussion of these issues. The discussion featured our own Dr. Bhorade!

It’s that time of year! We’re excited to share the winners of the Fall 2019 cycle LEAP Challenge.
The Skandalaris Center’s Leadership and Entrepreneurial Acceleration Program, or LEAP, provides industry connections and gap funding to teams of Washington University faculty, postdoc, staff, and graduate-student researchers and inventors. There are multiple cycles of LEAP each year.
The advice was simple and blunt: “Stop stressing out and focus on what you love.” Washington University in St. Louis senior Harsh Moolani was skeptical. As a pre-med student, Moolani believed he needed to pack his resume with clubs, activities and academic accolades. Then he considered the source: a remarkable woman with a successful career, good friends — and a few months to live. The two had become close at a local hospice, where Moolani was a volunteer and she was dying of Parkinson’s disease.
Erin Sieck, MD and Robi Maamari, MD have accepted positions with DOVS. They will be Assistant Professors in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences starting September 1, 2020 and July 1, 2020 respectively.
Drs. Apte and Ruzycki received a GTAC@MGI pilot project grant. These projects were made possible by funds from the Dean of the School of Medicine, the ICTS grant, and a gift from Illumina.
