Spring 2025 LASIK CE Dinner Recap: A Night of Education, Connection, and Community

The WashU Medicine Spring 2025 LASIK Optometry Continuing Education Dinner was an outstanding success! Held on April 15, 2025, at Westwood Country Club in St. Louis, brought together a dynamic group of local optometrists for an evening of clinical insight, collegial connection, and of course—great food.

Over 60 attendees joined us to earn COPE-approved continuing education credits while diving into the latest advancements in refractive surgery and LASIK co-management. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, as old friends reconnected and new professional relationships were formed.

Featured Speakers & Presentations

This year’s dinner featured two phenomenal speakers, each bringing thoughtful, engaging presentations that both informed and inspired:

  • Andrew R. Lee, MD, Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at WashU Medicine Children’s Eye Center, presented “Double Vision, Double Cure”, a deep dive into diagnostic strategies and surgical solutions for patients presenting with binocular vision complaints.

  • Eric Polk, OD, FAAO, a leader in optometric education, delivered a cleverly titled and clinically rich session: “It is The End of The Erosion As We Know It.” Dr. Polk’s presentation focused on corneal health, ocular surface management, and how these often-overlooked factors impact surgical outcomes.

Beyond the educational content, the night served as a meaningful time to reconnect. As Dr. Stephen Wexler, WashU Medicine LASIK Surgeon and Medical Director of WashU Medicine LASIK Surgery Center beautifully shared:

“It was so great to have such a nice turnout and to see so many of my colleagues that I have known for years. We got a lot of great feedback about the quality of the educational program… and the food!”

From check-in to the final bite of dessert, the evening reflected a strong sense of community within the St. Louis eye care network.

The meal, served in the stately surroundings of Westwood Country Club, didn’t disappoint. Attendees enjoyed a relaxed dining experience that perfectly complemented the educational program—a balance of professionalism and camaraderie that we always strive to deliver.

A heartfelt thank you to all who attended, and to our brilliant speakers for sharing their time and expertise. Events like these underscore our commitment to high-quality, evidence-based continuing education and meaningful collaboration within our eye care community.
