Shui accepts award on behalf of WashU Medicine Eye Center volunteers

Honored for ongoing service with Health Protection & Education Services at University City Library

Ying-Bo Shui, MD, PhD, Senior Scientist at WashU Medicine John F. Hardesty, MD, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, accepted an award in September on behalf of colleagues and trainees from the WashU Eye Centers. The recognition, presented at the Health Protection & Education Services (HPES) gala, honored the team’s commitment to community service.

Shui and fellow ophthalmology faculty members George Harocopos, MD; Xiaotang Yin, MD, PhD; and Andrew Huang, MD, regularly volunteer at HPES clinics held monthly at the University City Public Library. Medical students often join them to provide vision screenings and educational resources for underserved community members.

The HPES award highlights the Eye Center’s dedication to advancing vision care beyond the clinic and research lab. By partnering with HPES, the faculty and students extend WashU Medicine’s mission of service into the community, helping to improve access to eye care and promote health equity in the St. Louis region.
