The next generation of personalized vision correction

The WashU Medicine LASIK Surgery Center is proud to introduce Wavelight® Plus Ray-Tracing Technology, now available for qualifying patients following recent FDA approval. This breakthrough treatment uses a personalized eye model, or Ocular Digital Replica, to deliver the most precise vision correction available today.

Unlike traditional methods, ray-tracing accounts for the unique characteristics of each eye, helping to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism with unmatched accuracy. Many patients achieve vision sharper than 20/20—often exceeding what glasses or contacts can provide. Beyond clarity, this technology empowers patients with greater freedom, confidence, and an enhanced quality of life.

WashU Medicine expertise

Our own Stephen Wexler, MD and Eric Polk, OD, FAAO contributed their expertise as part of the development team that helped bring this innovation to life. WashU Medicine LASIK Surgery Center is now the only provider in the St. Louis region offering patients access to this advanced technology.

Wavelight® Plus Ray-Tracing Technology represents the future of LASIK, and WashU Medicine LASIK Surgery Center is leading the way in bringing it to St. Louis.

How it works

Step 1: Eye mapping
The Sightmap diagnostic system captures over 100,000 data points using:

  • Ocular wavefront (how light passes through your eye)
  • Biometry (eye size and shape)
  • Corneal tomography (mapping the eye’s surface)

These measurements combine to create your Ocular Digital Replica—a precise 3D model of your eye.

Step 2: AI-powered planning
Artificial intelligence analyzes your Ocular Digital Replica and runs thousands of scenarios to design a treatment plan personalized to your unique vision needs.

Step 3: Precision laser treatment
The WaveLight® Plus laser uses ultra-fast pulses and tracks eye movement over 1,000 times per second. Each eye is treated in just seconds—safe, accurate, and comfortable.
